Of course, here on earth(even at the Happiest Places) there is the reality of imperfect family dynamics. The crankies, the frustration with the crowds and the heat, everyone wanting to do something different at the same time... truth be told, sometimes Disney brings out the worst in me. On my own, I have a lot of shortcomings(just ask any of my children, my husband, or slow people in front of me on the freeway!). I can have a mouth like a trucker, a terrible temper and am not good with budgeting, just to name a few. I am working on these things, but often it's a daily struggle.
On my own, I cannot be perfect; I don't even come close! But, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13) That's not an empty promise! God wants to help us lead our lives, following his perfect plan. He would never ask us to do anything that wasn't in our best interest. "For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you HOPE and a future." (Jeremiah 29:11)
I'm SO glad to know that God loves the imperfect!! God doesn't just want the cheerleaders, the athletes, the brainiacs, or the do-gooders... He wants every single person to KNOW he LOVES them. You don't have to be a certain "type" to come to God. Come as you are. Isn't that one of the things you love most about Disney, too? Everyone is welcome!
As we were planning for our latest trip to WDW, and you know how we plan(and plan, and plan), one of my kids asked why we were spending so much time studying about Disney World. I replied, without much thought, "The more we study about it, the more we'll enjoy it when we get there. We could just go and have a great time - it's Disney, after all - but if we really take the time to get to know all about it, we get to enjoy some of the magic and excitement before we get there." How's that for a great illustration? We could just ask God to forgive our sins and say, "see you in heaven", but then we'd miss so much here on earth! If we study about who God is, and seek the plans He has for us here, we will have so much more fun on the way.
I love the feeling of knowing we are going on a Disney vacation. Just thinking about it makes me feel like I'm almost there. In the same sort of way (but on a WAY bigger scale), I love thinking about heaven and the feeling of being almost there. The good news is that you don't need to DO something good enough, BE someone you're not, or PAY an admission price. What Jesus DID on the cross is enough. Who God already created you to BE is enough. The admission price to heaven has already been PAID.
